2. Information We Collect

We collect the following types of information:

Account Information: Email address and authentication data when you create an account.
Practice Data: Your practice sessions, progress, and performance metrics.
MIDI Data: Input from your connected MIDI keyboard during practice sessions.
Usage Data: How you interact with our application to improve our services.

3. How We Use Your Information

We use your information to:

Provide and maintain our piano practice services
Track your progress and provide personalized practice recommendations
Improve and optimize our application
Communicate with you about updates and new features
Ensure the security of your account
Publish aggregated, de-identified statistics from practice data, for example how often notes are missed in a bar of a public piece across many players. These never include names, emails, account IDs or private uploads, and every figure combines at least 50 players.

4. Data Storage and Security

Your data is stored securely using industry-standard encryption and security practices. We use Supabase as our backend infrastructure, which provides enterprise-grade security including encryption at rest and in transit. Session recordings from our website and web app are stored on a server we run ourselves at Hetzner in Germany.

We do not sell your personal data. We may share your information only in the following circumstances:

With service providers who assist in operating our application
When required by law or to protect our legal rights

7. Cookies, Analytics and Session Recordings

We use essential cookies to keep you signed in and remember your preferences.

We measure how our website and apps are used with our own analytics, stored in our own database: for example pages visited, features used and errors. When you are signed in, this is linked to your account so we can fix problems you run into.

To find problems in the design of our product, we record how new players use it during their first 24 hours: pages, clicks, taps and scrolling. In the apps this starts at the first launch, before you create an account. What you type is never recorded, and private text such as support messages and names is hidden. Recordings from the website and web app stay on our own server; recordings in the iPhone and Android apps are processed by PostHog until our next app update. Recordings are deleted after 30 days.

8. MasterPiano in ChatGPT and Claude

When you use the MasterPiano plugin in ChatGPT or Claude, the assistant sends us what a request needs: the search words, piece, level, grade or key you asked for, and its language setting. ChatGPT also sends a rough location, which we do not keep. We keep each request with the tool used, the result, the time and the language setting for 12 months, to count use and improve answers.

We do not receive your name, email address, account or the rest of your conversation, and the plugin needs no MasterPiano account. ChatGPT sends an anonymous user code; we keep it only scrambled with our own secret key, so it cannot be matched to your ChatGPT account outside MasterPiano, and use it only to count how many people use the plugin. Your conversation itself is covered by OpenAI's or Anthropic's privacy policy. When you follow a link from the plugin to our website, the website's normal analytics apply.

9. Children's Privacy

Our service is not directed to children under 13. If you are a parent or guardian and believe your child has provided us with personal information, please contact us.

We may update this privacy policy from time to time. We will notify you of any significant changes by posting the new policy on this page and updating the "Last updated" date.
